Robert F. Zinn

Robert F. “Bob” Zinn, 78, of Canonsburg passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born on January 8, 1937 in Canonsburg, a son of the late Carl Sly and Esther Mansfield Zinn.

Bob was a proud veteran, serving with the United States Navy from 1955-1959 as a NAVSCOL Radioman Class A USNTC in Bainbridge, MD.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Canonsburg and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church.  He retired from Millcraft Industries as a machinist.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.  He was also a lifetime member of the NRA.  Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his two beloved daughters, Karen M. (Daniel) Higgins of Bethel Park and Lisa C. (Mark) Crosby of Dormont; three precious grandchildren, Olivia Crosby and Ethan and Emily Higgins; brother-in-law, Edward Horvath of Canonsburg; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Malone of Canonsburg and Helen Malone of Dallas, TX.  Also surviving is his former spouse and the mother of his children, Mary Ellen Malone Zinn of Mt. Lebanon and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Carl and Donald Zinn and two sisters, Carol Ann Horvath and Wilma Jean Zinn.  Bob was the last of his immediate family.

Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Thursday, May 7, 2015.  A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.  Inurnment, with military honors rendered by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard, will be held at a later date in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made towards his grandchildren’s educational fund in care of Mary Ellen Zinn, 61 Oregon Trail, Mt. Lebanon, PA 15234.
