William (Bill) Snyder age 64 of Canonsburg, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 in his home, following a brief illness. He was born on May 21, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Billie C. and Mary Spina Snyder. Mr Snyder was a graduate of Washington High School and a member of St. Patrick Church. He served in the United States Army 79th ORDDET (GMGS) (Hawk) USARPAC, receiving a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Mr. Snyder worked for Cooper Industries in Canonsburg, where he served several terms as President and Chairman of the Steel Workers Union.
He was a member of the Muse Independent (Italian) Club, VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg, American Legion Post 902 of Houston, SNPJ Club of Strabane, and the Alpine Club of Washington.
Mr. Snyder enjoyed spending time with the family, going to his granddaughters sporting events, golfing, canning peppers, and camping. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On July 25, 1970 he married his beloved wife Brenda Ward, who survives.
Also surviving is son, Bryant (Tinnesia) Snyder of Canonsburg, daughter, Chelena (Roger) McConnell of Powell, OH; four granddaughters, Myah McConnell and Sydney, Samantha, Sienna Snyder.
Deceased also is brother, Richard Snyder.
Friends are welcome on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc.; Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, January 5, 2012. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies; Cecil Twp. Full military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard of VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
