William T. Smiley

William T. “Bill” Smiley, 68, of Washington passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 in the Washington Hospital after fighting a lengthy illness with his daughter, Laura and companion, Erma by his side.

He was born on May 2, 1947 in Washington, the son of the late William C. Smiley and the late Louise (the late Glenn) Powell.

In younger years, Bill enjoyed working on the farm with his stepfather, Glenn.  He was a former employee of Donley Brick and went on to retire from Del Sir as a lifelong trucker.  An avid Steelers and Pirates fan, Bill also enjoyed bull riding, wrestling, and watching his everyday shows.

He was fondly referred to as “Smiley” and was well liked by many.  Bill was a very giving and caring person and will be sadly missed.

Surviving are four children, Billy Smiley, Terri Comer, Heather Smiley, and his baby girl, Laura (Lee) Brenneman; and four grandchildren, James Spencer, Camden Brenneman, Weston Durbin, and Jordan Smiley.  Also surviving is his long-time companion, Erma Bowser, with whom he shared a home.

In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was preceded in death by a son, Chad Smiley and a sister, Linda Smiley Walker.

Friends are welcome from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 .

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. to defray funeral expenses.
