William O. “Bill” Phillips age 84 of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 28, 2024, in Canonsburg Hospital with his family by his side. He was born April 3, 1940, in Washington, a son of the late Orville and Florence Spanogle Phillips and lived in Canonsburg since 1972. Bill was Presbyterian by faith and a graduate of Trinity High School. He proudly served with the Untied States Navy, prior to going into banking, where he retired from Mellon Bank in 1988. He was the Money Room manager at the Meadows Racetrack, where he had been employed for 41 years. Bill was an avid hunter, marksman and competitive shooter, who also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Muse Independent Club and the Mt. Lebanon Dormont Sportsman’s Club. On August 12, 1972, he married Nancy Bernardi who survives after 51 years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his two sons, William M. Phillips of Hotchkiss, Colorado, Brad L. (Lori) Phillips of Forest Hill Md. and his daughter Karie L. VanWie of Cecil Twp. Four beloved grandchildren, Kaylee and Evan Phillips and Olivia and Luke VanWie and several nieces and nephews. Bill was the last of his immediate family. Deceased in addition to his parents are his son Chad O. “Philly” Phillips who passed away May 17, 2019, a sister Carol White and a brother Warren Keith Phillips who passed away in infancy in 1939.

Friends and family are welcome from 3 until 7 pm Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724) 745-8120 where services will be held at 9:15 am Thursday August 1, 2024. Interment with full military rites by the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the Untied States Navy will be held at 10:30 am in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the American Cancer Society and the City Mission of Washington.
