William J. “Bill” Novotny, 83, of Avella, formerly of Houston and Goose Creek, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Town View Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg.
He was born on November 6, 1932 in Canonsburg, a son of the late Michael and Julia Sefcik Novotny.
Originally from Houston, Bill was a graduate of Chartiers High School. After many devoted years, he retired from CamAlloy and the Meadows in 1997. After retiring, he relocated to Goose Creek, South Carolina in 1999. He recently returned to the area in November, 2015.
Bill proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Alaska.
He was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He also loved the Steelers.
On June 30, 1956 he married his beloved wife, Patricia A. Wylie Novotny, who survives.
Also surviving are three loving children, David M. Novotny of Ellsworth, Darcie L. (Robert L.) Coen of Morgantown, and R. Douglas Novotny of Washington; three siblings, Irene Kirby of Mount Pleasant, Frank Novotny of Houston, and Mary (Harry) Tripson of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Natalie Schwoerer of Washington, Maggie Novotny of Washington, Deirdre (Steven Farnau) Dlugonski of Greenville, NC, Nicholas (fiancé Laura Young) Dlugonski of Ebensburg, and Ty (Lauren Craig) West of Washington; six great grandchildren, Makayla and Aiden Schwoerer, William and Owen Farnau, and Kylee and Everett West; and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his beloved dog, Kimmie.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Julie Martinak and three brothers, Michael, John, and Joseph Novotny.
Friends are welcome from 5-8 PM on Sunday, March 27, 2016 and from 1-3 and 6-8 on Monday, March 28, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment, with full military rites accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Honor Guard, will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
