William F. "Bill" Coates age 65 of Strabane, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at 5:40 PM in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born November 13, 1943, in Charleroi, the son of the late Frederick and Marion Lowe Coates.
He graduated from Donora High School.
Mr. Coates retired from the Canonsburg Police Department and was a member of the F.O.P., during and after retirement Bill was a bus driver for Canon McMillan School district.
He served with the United States Air Force from October 1, 1962 to May 29, 1965, during that time he received Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Coates was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg.
He was also a member of Elks Club, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg, Canonsburg Sportsman Club and SNPJ Lodge138 of Strabane.
Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman.
On October 30, 1965 he married Jean Stack, who survives.
Also surviving are son, David Coates of Canonsburg; daughter, Amy (Kinsley) Newton of McMurray; three grandchildren, Zachary Coates, Cole and Kelsey Newton; one sister, Deborah (Tim) Ravis of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased besides parents is one sister, Nancy Coates.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 10:30 AM, with Father Joseph Lewandowski officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
