William "Rip" Campbell

William "Rip" Campbell age 85 of Venetia died at 10:15 pm Sunday April 24, 2011 at Golden Living of South Hills, following a brief illness. He was born October 25, 1925 in Castle Shannon a son of the late Carroll and Elizabeth Campbell.
Mr. Campbell had served with the 272nd Infantry Division of the United States Army during WWII. He received the Bronze Star for service in the European Theater. He was a painter and member of the Painters Local #6. Mr. Campbell was a member of VFW Post 764 of McMurray and a former member of the Washington Trotting Association.
On September 9, 1950 he married Virginia M. Davis who survives. Also surviving is a daughter Jeannette (Wayne) Wuerl of McMurray, a son William P. Campbell of Venitia, a sister Nancy Bucher of Eighty-Four, a brother Bruce Campbell of Castle Shannon and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers Michael and James Campbell and four sisters; Edith Miller, Betty MelHorn, Loraine Maggs and Dolores Potter.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where services will be held at 9:30 am Wednesday, April 27, 2011 with the Reverend Geoff Rach, officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military rites will be accorded by VFW Post 764 of McMurray.
