Walter J. Potochar age 98 of Houston passed away peacefully Tuesday October 29, 2024, in Canonsburg Hospital. He was born on March 17, 1926, in Strabane, a son of the late Louis and Anna Osterman Potocar. Wally lived in Houston since 1963 and was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands. He proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Wally was a member of the American Legion Post 902 of Houston, the VFW Post 553 of Strabane, the Canonsburg Sportsmen’s Assoc. and the KSKJ St. Jerome Lodge 153 of Strabane. Prior to his retirement, Wally was a member of the United Ironworkers and belonged to Local #3. On October 26, 1963, he married Mary Bele who passed away September 20, 1995. Left behind to cherish his memory are his devoted children Michael (Lori) Potochar of Canonsburg and Teresa (Ed) Lewis of Houston, 4 beloved grandchildren, Lucas and Aaron Potochar and Megan and Melanie Lewis and several nieces and nephews. Walter was the last of his immediate family. Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents is his sister Agnes M. Sapp and his brother Louis Potocar.
Friends and family are welcome from 9:30 am until 11:30 am Monday, November 4, 2024, at SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg where departing prayers will be recited at 11:40 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon in St. Patrick Church 317 West Street Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Twp.
