Steve Sohyda age 76, of Canonsburg died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 3:04 pm in UPMC Bellvue.
He was born in Muse on December 8, 1931, son of the late Nicholas and Anne Sinclair Sohyda.
Mr. Sohyda graduated from Cecil High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Sohyda worked for former McGraw-Edison in the shipping department.
He was a member of St. John's Russian Orthodox Church.
Mr. Sohyda was an avid Steele's fan and played football in his earlier years.
After his wife's passing he mastered her recipe and love of bread making.
On July 30, 1955 he married Lillian Faith Rape` who died on August 18, 2006.
Surviving are daughter, Sally Jo (Brad) Hanson of Lower Burrell; brother, Harry Sohyda of Muse; sister, Betty Rosmus of Canonsburg; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one son, Stephen Nicholas Sohyda, who died in July of 1970; five sisters, Mary, Helen, Ann, Margaret and Dorothy and three brothers, Nicholas, John and William.
Friends will be received on Sunday, November 23, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724-745-8120), where a blessing service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 9:30 am followed by Funeral service at 10:00 am in St. John's Russian Orthodox Church with Father Joseph Oleynik officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Full military rites will be accorded by the combined honor guards Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston. On Sunday at 7:00pm in the funeral home a Parastas service will be held. At the family request in lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John's Growth Fund 601 Boone Ave. Canonsburg, Pa. 15317, in memory of Steve.
