Stanley Niedzwickie

Stanley "Stan" Niedzwickie, 87, of Canonsburg passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 in Consulate of North Strabane.

He was born in Young, Pennsylvania on May 6, 1927, a son of the late Stanley and Rose Witkay Niedzwickie.

Stan proudly served his country from 1945-1946 during World War II as a Seaman First Class with the United States Navy. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and a Victory Medal.

Stan retired from US Steel after 39 devoted years and was a member of the US Steel Workers Union. He was also an active member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish in Canonsburg, the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg, and the American Legion Post 902 in Houston.

He enjoyed polka dancing, traveling, and spending time at the casino.

On November 9, 1990 he married Thelma I. Szolek Friend Niedzwickie, who survives.

Also surviving are three step children, Stanley J. (Nancy) Friend of Erie, Cheryl Friend Sluciak of Canonsburg, and Richard A. (Deanna) Friend of North Carolina; a brother, Chester (Virginia) Nedvesky of Fredonia, New York; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmella Sacco Niedzwickie, who passed away in 1989; and seven siblings, Stella Handle, Genny Kakasys, Helen Kletch, Leona Holmes, Matilda Bachorski, John Niedzwicki, and Joseph Niedzwicki.

Friends are welcome from 2-8 PM on Monday, April 6, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Entombment, with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard, will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
