Stanley S. Balazy age 77 of Burgettstown, formerly of Houston and Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 3, 2013 in Weirton Medical Center.
He was born on February 21, 1936 in Washington, Pa.; the son of the late Stanley A. and Alice Negle Balazy.
Mr. Balazy served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Medal. He lived most of his life in the Houston Canonsburg area, but for the last year and a half lived in Burgettstown. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 553 of Strabane and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston. Mr. Balazy enjoyed fishing, in his earlier years working on and entering stock car races which he won several of, but what he enjoyed most in later years was spending time with his grandchildren and going to their sporting events.
On November 3, 1984 he married his beloved wife of nearly 30 years, Maxine McAnany, who survives.
Also surviving are his son, David (Amy) Constant of Slovan, two daughters, Jody (Dean) Mazutis of Eighty-Four, Jamie (Shawn) Leonard of Slovan; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Paige, Emily, Maddison, Miley, Amanda, Steven, Shawn, Jr. and Chyann; three sisters, Patricia Getzik of Pittsburgh; Frances Raspet of Houston and Dorothy Balazy of Houston and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Deceased also are two brothers-in-law Edward Getzik and Walter Raspet.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 2;00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be held at 9:30 AM Thursday, August 8, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadowlands, with Rev. Carmen D'Amico as celebrant. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
