Shirley Jean Pollak Basso age 71 of Muse died unexpectedly Saturday November 12, 2011 in Canonsburg General Hospital. She was born November 26, 1939 in Montour a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Gaza Pollak. She lived most of her life in the Muse and Canonsburg area's and also resided in Florida and Nebraska. For over 20 years she owned and operated a beauty shop and had been employed at Foundations Incorporated, Sally Beauty Supply, J.C. Penney Co. and Fantastic Sam's. Prior to her retirement she had been employed in the mortgage department of National City Bank.
Shirley loved listening to country and polka music, crocheting, laughing, being with her family and having fun with friends. She touched the lives of so many people with her smile, generosity and her trademark "care giver for everybody she knew" and always being there for everyone.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Staniszewski) Raiford of Muse, her stepson John Basso Jr. of Canonsburg, her granddaughter Merideth Amber Raiford of Jacksonville Florida, four loving sisters; Margaret (Carmel) Passalaqua of Sarasota Fla. Virginia (Dollie) O'Neil of Jerome ID. Patricia (Donella) Anderson of Houston and Carol Ann (Pollak) Thani of Salt Lake City, UT and several nieces and nephews, along with countess other friends and family members who were blessed to know and love her . In April of 1967 she married John Basso who died February 4, 2010. Deceased in addition to her parents are two brothers; Edward and William F. Pollak and a sister Mildred Steffan and a stepdaughter Carol Ladzinski.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where services will be held at 11 am Thursday November 17, 2011. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
