Sarah Louise “Sally” Yagi

Sarah Louise “Sally” Yagi age 87 of Canonsburg and Osaka Japan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2022, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. She was born March 9, 1935, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Anthony Paul and Josephine DePasquale Rape’. Raised in Canonsburg, Sally was a graduate of Canonsburg High School and a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church. Mrs. Yagi earned a master’s degree in Mathematics at Notre Dame University and was a former member of the School Sisters of St. Francis in Bellevue. She lived in Japan since 1970, when she married Katsumi Yagi, who survives her, after 52 years of marriage. In her later years, she divided her time between Japan & her hometown. Before retiring, Mrs. Yagi was employed as an interpreter at the Hotel New Otani in Osaka. Sarah enjoyed poetry and authored four books of original poems, spoke multiple languages, and traveled the world. She loved reading, writing, studying, and sharing with others via her blog and giving talks at the library. She also earned her black belt in Aikido. Also left to cherish her memory are her sons Kenta Yagi and his wife Noriko of Tokyo, Japan, and Koji Yagi and his wife Ayako of Osaka, Japan, grandchildren Liliko, Sarasa, Elena and Toma Yagi, her sister Mary Jane DeGennaro of Souderton, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her brother Anthony P. Rape’ Jr., and two sisters Grace L. Rape’ and Lillian Faith Sohyda. She will also be greatly missed by her dear friends Shirley Anthony, Robin Petit, Donna Hastings and Annabelle McGannon.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Doctors without Borders or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, can be made in Sarah’s memory.

Friends and family are welcome Wednesday morning July6, 2022, from 9:30 am until 11:40 am when departing prayers will be recited in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon in St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
