Sarah Jane (Kern) Thomas

Sarah Jane Thomas age 85 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully Monday November 27, 2017 in Evergreen Assisted+ Living of Washington with her family by her side. She was born November 18, 1932 in Canonsburg a daughter of the late John and Susan “Sis” Fisher Kern. Mrs. Thomas lived her entire life in Canonsburg and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. In her youth she taught herself to play the clarinet and got a job to learn to play classical music on the piano. She had been employed at the RCA plant in Meadowlands, was an operator with Bell Telephone and Bell Atlantic and prior to her retirement was a senior clerk with Verizon. Mrs. Thomas loved her daughters, grandchildren, her dogs and cats. On August 7, 1952 she married Anthony “Duncan” Thomas who survives. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters Linda (Andrew “Bernie”) Graytok of Canonsburg and Joyce (Harold) Johnston of Cecil four grandchildren Jared (Carrie) Johnston, Candice Alexandra Graytok , Casey Johnston and Heather Lacy (Russell) Shawbell, her sister Roseann “Cookie” (Joseph) Ianni of Houston and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents is her granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Graytok who died in infancy, a brothers James Kern, and two sisters; Berty Kern and Susan Dano.

Friends and family are welcome from 9:30 to 11:30 am, the time of departing prayers Wednesday November 29, 2017, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Wednesday in St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg. Interment to follow in Oak Spring Cemetery.
