Sarah M. Porcaro, 95, formerly of Houston, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016. She most recently resided with her niece and nephew, Gloria and Kent Buckels, in Canonsburg.
She was born on December 16, 1920 in San Giovanni, Fiore, Italy, the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Theresa Mele Marra.
Sarah was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and Guild, the Ladies of Charity, and a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
She was a graduate of Canonsburg High School and furthered her education at Penn State University.
Sarah retired from Chartiers-Houston School District, where she was Administrative Secretary to the Superintendent for 40 years. Upon her retirement, she served two terms on the Chartiers-Houston Board of Education as Treasurer and Chairman of the finance committee. She was the former President of the Board of Directors of the Chartiers-Houston Community Library. Sarah was also a lifetime member of the National Association of Educational Office Professionals and a volunteer at Canonsburg General Hospital.
On July 12, 1947 she married Carmen D. Porcaro, who passed away on February 28, 2002.
Surviving are four sisters-in-law, Loretta Kulakowski of Canonsburg, Pearl (Gene) Carter of McDonald, Rena Patrick of Canonsburg, and Rosemarie (John) Vidmar of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Ross Marra; a niece, Ramona Porcaro; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Porcaro. She was the last of her immediate family.
Friends are welcome from 6-8 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2016 and from 1-3 and 6-8 PM on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
The Christian Mothers and Guild will recite the Rosary at 1:00 PM on Monday in the funeral home.
