Ruth J. Rakar 85 of Canonsburg, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:18 AM in Golden Living Health Care.
She was born August 31, 1923 in Canonsburg, the daughter of Jacob and Sarah Shepler Byers.
Mrs. Rakar was a member of St. Patrick Church and the Christian Mothers.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center, Canonsburg and the Canonsburg Eagles.
Mrs. Rakar worked at the Canonsburg Hospital as a nurse's aid for 28 years before her retirement in 1985.
She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rakar was an avid Steelers fan and she enjoyed bingo.
She lived in Canonsburg her entire life.
On September 18, 1939 she married John Rakar who died December 8, 1986.
Surviving are a son, John (Arlene) Rakar of Cheswick; five daughters, Ruth (Frank) Prince of Sarasota, Florida; Sarah Chadwick of Canonsburg; Susan Batson of Baltimore, Maryland; Frances Curdie of Canonsburg and Nancy (Robert) Strehlow of Captiva Island, Florida.
Mrs. Rakar was the last of her immediate family.

Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, on Monday, March 9, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM and where a Blessing Service will be held on Tuesday, March, 10, 2009 at 9:30 AM follow by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
