Rubin Charles Richards, age 66 of Houston, passed away unexpectedly with his wife Donna by his side on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Washington Hospital. He was born September 14, 1954 in New Eagle, a son of the late Doc and Anna Mae Jackson Richards.
Rubin grew up in Ellsworth, graduating from Bentleyville High School, where he played basketball and football. He was later inducted into the Washington-Green County Hall of Fame for basketball. He attended Bay College of Maryland on a basketball scholarship where he received his bachelors in business administration, then went on to attend California University receiving a second bachelor’s degree. He proudly served four years in the United States Air Force and two years in the Army.
For 24 years Rubin worked as a social worker for the department of welfare where he met his beloved wife Donna. They’ve been inseparable ever since, going everywhere together. He was also co-owner, along with his wife, of Smart Kids Childcare and Learning Center in Washington.
Rubin was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching movies and most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church, St. Oscar Romero Parish.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years, Donna Shriver; daughters Ericka Lynn Richards of Napa, CA and Chantae Nicole Jackson of Stockton, CA; step-sons Michael Maloy of Houston and Greg (Heather) Shriver of Washington; grandchildren Mya Maloy, Emmet Shriver, Chester, Jackson III, Cage and Calel; brother Doc Richards Jr., and sisters Ruth Ann Richards, Jackie Richards Bumpass, Jill Richards Scott and Olivia J. Harris.
Friends and family are welcome from 2-8 pm on Thursday, July 15, 2021 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:20 am on Friday, July 16, 2021, followed by a Mass of Christin Burial at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church, St. Oscar Romero Parish, 300 Pike Street, Meadowlands.
Interment will follow at Woodruff Memorial Park, Canonsburg, with full military rites by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard and the United States Army.
