Richard D. Kovac

Richard D. Kovac age 88, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday June 1, 2024, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh with his family by his side. He was born June 13, 1935, in Zelienople, a son of the late Andrew Steven and Margaret Gasper Kovac. Rich was Lutheran by faith and prior to his retirement had been a tractor trailer driver for Coca-Cola for 30 years. Mr. Kovac proudly served with the United States Navy, stationed on the USS Manatee and received the China Service and National Defense Medals. Rich was a farmer at heart, gardening, being on his tractor and wood crafting building furniture. He enjoyed the beach and traveled to camp at Myrtle Beach many summers.  On December 22, 1955, he married Geraldine L.” Gerry” Bernhardt who survives after 68 years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Sheryl (Eric) Faust of Houston, Dale (Karen Imperatore) Kovac of Washington and Matthew A. (Jamie) Kovac of New Eagle, four beloved grandchildren, Kelli Reese, James Clawson, Kaylee Macevic and Zachary Kovac, 4 great grand children one great-great granddaughter, sisters Margaret Rabassi of Merriville Indiana, Anna DeSimone of Pittsburgh and Linda (Wes) Steider of Weirton West Virginia his sister in law Susan Kovac of Bethel Park and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his siblings Betty O’Connor and Andrew Kovac who passed away May 22, 2024.

Interment with full military honors, accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard and the United States Navy will follow at 10:30 am in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.
