Reverend James S. Irwin

Reverend James S. Irwin age 93 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, September 6, 2023. He was born November 30, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Gertrude May Irwin. Reverend Irwin was a proud member of the United States Army in the Second Armored Division, receiving the World War II Victory Medal. After receiving his discharge, he joined the Navy reserves until he was able to serve as a Drill Seargent in the United States Air Force during the Korean War at Lackland Air force base in San Antonio Texas. An amateur boxer, in his youth, Jim fought in the Texas State Lightweight Division boxing championship, losing in a split decision. After his Honorable Discharges, he became a minister with the Church of the Nazarene, as a pastor and traveling the United States with his family as an Evangelist at churches and camp meetings. Still a faithful minister with the Church of the Nazarene, he attended Waterdam Church since being back in the area. Reverend Irwin was a talented artist who enjoyed painting nature scapes. On August 27, 1955, he married Barbara Church who survives after 68 years of marriage. Left behind to cherish his memory, in addition to his wife are his devoted son Charles “Skip” (Gealean) Irwin of Washington, his daughter Terry (Reverend Bruce) Poling of West Mifflin, his sister Margaret Musser of Carlisle, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his sister Lucille Price who passed away August 12, 2022, and a brother Thomas Irwin who died in his youth.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 until 3:30 pm on Tuesday September 12, 2023, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724-745-8120) where services will be held at 3:30pm with Pastor Jack Wilson officiating.
