R. Mont Miller age 83 of Canonsburg passed away at 1:20pm Monday August 20, 2012 in Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born July 24, 1929 in Houston, a son of the late Walter G. and Gladys Meyers Miller.
Mr. Miller lived most of his life in Canonsburg where he attended Canonsburg High School and served for many on the Class of 1949 reunion committee. He had served with the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Magoffin and was at the invasion of In chon receiving the Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with on bronze star, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
Mr. Miller had been employed at the former Continental Can Co in Canonsburg, a driver for executives at Dravo, Corp., was a self employed home builder in the partnership of Miller and Szafranice. He was then employed at LeRoy's Music and the former McGraw Edison Power Systems and Cooper Industries where he had been a supervisor, in Canonsburg. A civic minded individual, he had served as Code Enforcement Officer and was a Member of Counsel for Canonsburg Borough, had been Treasurer of the Canonsburg Public Library, was Supervisor of Elections and was elected president of the Canon McMillan School Board in 1979.
He was a 32nd degree Mason Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Syria Shrine, and a 59 year member and Past Master of F&AM Chartiers Lodge 297 of Canonsburg. Mr. Miller was also member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg, the American Legion Post 902 of Houston, the Italian American Association and the Jefferson College Historical Society.
On February 19, 1951 he married Dolores "Dolly" Mangiarelli who died May 19, 2012 after 61 years of marriage. He is survived by two daughters; Kristine (Larry) Scola of Dunedin Florida and Robyn (Bill) Faith of North Strabane Twp. a sister Margaret (Peg) Spin of Canonsburg, two grandsons; Vincent Faith and Chris (Christy) Faith, a great granddaughter Briella Faith and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his wife are twin sisters Mary Jane Mullig and Mildred Martorana.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where services will be held at 10 am Friday August 24, 2012 with reverend Donald Austin, pastor of Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow at 11am in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, with full military rites accorded by the VFW post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion post 902 of Houston combined honor guard.
