Nicholas G. Salandra age 85 of McMurray passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family Sunday, November 23, 2014 in Allegheny General
Hospital, Pittsburgh, due to a fall on his way to church. He was born August 31, 1929 in Midland a son of the late Joseph and Rose Ross Salandra. Mr. Salandra lived most of his life in the Peters Twp., Canonsburg area where he was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Chartiers High School and served with the United States Army. Prior to his retirement he had been employed at Universal Cyclops in Bridgeville. He was a member of the Sports Arena Employees Local 137 Retirees and had been employed at the Meadows Race Track for many years.
Mr. Salandra enjoyed traveling, spending holidays and cherished times with his family. He was always busy with home projects such as woodworking and caring for his property..
He is survived by his three beloved daughters; Linda (Edward) Salandra Dweck and Diana Salandra both of Palm Beach Florida and Lisa (George) Salandra Zimmerman of West Middletown and Palm Beach, three adored grandchildren Nicholas, Margaux and Pierce and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Leo Salandra and his brother; Joseph J. (Penner) Salandra.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 10:30am Wednesday November 26, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday in St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery Peters Twp. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg Honor Guard.
