Nancy Sala Traska, 76 of Canonsburg, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born September 27, 1932 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Henry Calvin and Mary Jane McChesney Sala, Sr.
Mrs. Traska worked as a cashier for Cinema 19, retiring in 2003, in her earlier years she worked for Daily Notes, Flannery Bolt, Mt. Lebanon Drive Inn and for Carmike Cinema World.
She attended The Meadow's Chapel.
Mrs. Traska lived most of her life in the Canonsburg area.
She was a social member of American Legion Post 902 of Houston and belonged to there Ladies Auxiliary and was also a social member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 191 of Canonsburg.
Mrs. Traska enjoyed listening to polka music, going to polka dances, reading, watching T.V. and spending time with her daughters and best friend Bonnie.
On September 28, 1951 she married Ted Traska, who died May 2, 2003
Surviving is two daughters, Susan and Irene Traska both of Pittsburgh; three other family members surviving are, Elizabeth "Betty" Lemon of Washington; Henry "Hank" Sala, Jr. of Canonsburg; and Eugene "Z" Sala of Hollywood, Florida; her best friend Bonnie Cowden and her daughter Susan's five cats , who she thought of as grandchildren.
Deceased are Lois Cumer and Howard "Rusty" Sala.
Nancy's last words to her family and friends are "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, caramel in one hand, drink in the other, body totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO" what a ride!"
Friends are welcome Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/ supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724-745-8120) where Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Joseph DiDonato officiating. Entombment will take place in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Family suggest in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Meadows Horse Man Association or Nancy's wish to take your spouse or friend out for a drink.
