Mirko Tomsic age 88 of Canonsburg, passed away Thursday December 22, 2011 in Canonsburg General Hospital following an extenended illness. He was born November 16, 1923 in Strabane, a son of the late John and Evana Paulowitz Tomsic.
Mr. Tomsic lived most of his life in Strabane and Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Parish. During World War II he had served as a Corporal with the 334th Fighter Squadron 4th Fighter Group 8th Air force. He was employed in the construction industry and was a member of Construction Laborers local 286 of Brownsville. Mr. Tomsic had been very active in the former St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church, serving on the parish counsel, he was an usher and did many remodeling projects for the church. He had been involved with the Canonsburg Pigeon Club, affiliated with the American Racing Pigeon Union, where he won many awards. He was a member of the SNPJ lodge 138 and the AFU lodge 149 both of Strabane.
He is survived, after 60 years of marriage, by Edna Kebart Tomsic who he married September 8, 1951. Also surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Tomsic of Washington D.C. and Janet (Tom) Breiding of McMurray and a grandson, Jack Breiding. He was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are a brother John Tomsic and a sister Zorka Tomsic who died March 2, 2010.
Friends are welcome from 8am until 9am the time of departing prayers on Saturday December 24, 2011 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Saturday in St. Patrick church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either St. Patrick Church or SouthernCare Hospice 201 Johnson Road Building one, Suite 101 Houston, PA. 15342.
