Michael Bushko,Jr.

January 10, 1919 — February 25, 2010

Michael Bushko, Jr. age 90 of Canonsburg, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born January 10, 1920, in Osceola Mills, the son of the late Michael and Susan Rose Earnest Busko.
Mr. Bushko lived most of his life in Canonsburg, were he was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church and the Jefferson College Historical Society.
He served with the Unite States Army in the 81st Tank Battalion, while in the service he received Good Conduct Metal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars.
Mr. Bushko was a coal miner for over 20years working for Bird Coal mine and for Westland Mine and later retiring in 1978, from McGraw-Edison as a hook up man in large finishing.
He was a member of American Legion Post 902 of Houston and Auxiliary Police of Canonsburg.
In his earlier years Mr. Bushko enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On March 2, 1943 he married Helen Matyuf who preceded him in death on January 2, 1998.
Surviving are one daughter, Michele E. (David) Campbell of Coraopolis, three sons, Gregory A. (Gwen) Bushko of Canonsburg; Michael L. (Susan) Bushko III of Fairmount W.V.; John A. (Judy) Bushko of Delaware, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Sara Campbell, Kristen Bushko and John Bushko, Aaron Bushko, Kara Bushko-Oates, Kelly Cutrone, Justin Bushko and Michael Bushko; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Keener of Canonsburg; Leona Bentz of Washington; one brother, George Bushko of North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one sister, Elizabeth Shipsky and five brothers, Alex, Paul, Walter, Pete and Joseph Bushko.
Friends are welcome on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 2;00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2010. A Liturgy will follow at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church with the Very Revered Joseph Oleynik, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Parastas service will be held 6:00 PM Friday in the funeral home. Full military rites will be accorded by combined honor guard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
