Melvin T. Bell, 81, of Canonsburg passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015 in Manor Care, Peters Twp.

He was born on May 14, 1934 in Gibsonia, a son of the late Thomas G. and Ruth A. Ross Bell.

Melvin proudly served his country with the United States Air Force in Korea.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 902 in Houston, the Canonsburg Sportsman Club, and a prior member of the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg.  Melvin was a retiree of Cooper Industries where he had worked for many devoted years in the machine shop and with the maintenance department.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

On July 24, 1954 he married his beloved wife, Bertha Pabian Bell, who survives.

Also surviving are his two loving children, Melissa K. (James) DeJohn of Washington and Wayne T. (Diana K. Headlee-Bell) Bell of Bentleyville; three siblings, Jeannie Naccaux of Wisconsin, Ronald Bell of Mercer, and Lorena (Bill) Glenn of Barkeyville, PA; three grandsons, Evan T. (Ashley) Bell, James T. DeJohn, and David W. (Victoria) DeJohn; and a great grandson, Camden J. DeJohn.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters.

Family and friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120.  A funeral service will be held privately on Sunday, September 13, 2015 with Rev. Donald Austin officiating.  Interment will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
