Melvin J. "Mel" Ammon age 62, died unexpectedly at his home in Ruff Creek formerly of Florida, on Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
He was born on August 9, 1947 in Washington, the son of the late Edward Carl and Catherine H. Petrola Ammon.
Mel attended Canon-McMillan High School.
He served during the Vietnam War in the United States Army as Aircraft Maintenance Crewman and on Single -Engine Airplane repair. Mel also received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Vietnam Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge.
He was a self employed floor installer.
Mel's passion was to be with his children, grandchildren and family. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin partying and listening to doo-whop. Mel was an avid Steeler's Fan. He was taken from his family and friends to soon and will be sadly missed by all.
Surviving is son, Sonny (Agnes) Ammon of Ormond Beach, Fl.; daughter, Sheri (John Bennett) Ammon of Holly Hill, Fl.; two grandchildren, Justice and Jacob Ammon; two sisters, Lenora Sue (Didier) Ammon Rousseau of New York City, N.Y.; Mary Veronica Ammon of Canonsburg; two brothers, Edward Carl (Paulette) Ammon II of McDonald; William Michael (Susie) Ammon of Las Vegas, Nevada and many nieces and nephews, also his long time campaign Colette Biosvert.
Deceased besides his parents is a sister Catherine L. Ammon.
At the request of Mel there will be no public visitation. A Blessing Service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120. Burial will be private. Full military rites will be accorded by combined Honor Guard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston
