Mavis E. Bednar, 98 of Canonsburg passed away on June 6, 2017 in her home.
She was born on August 11, 1918 in Franklin, PA to Jesse William and Nancy Ellen Brookover Efaw who preceded her in death.
On November 25, 1937 she married Chester Bednar who preceded her in death on May 9, 1986.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canonsburg.
She enjoyed reading romance novels and she was an avid knitter. She and her husband owned and operated a car wash and a grocery store in Waynesburg for many years.
She is survived by three sons Chet W. Bednar (Toni) of Eighty-Four, James A. Bednar (Diane) of McDonald and Fred H. Bednar (Sue) of Pittsburgh, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Tom and Willard Efaw and three sisters, Nettie Efaw, Lottie Bietzel and Myrtle Efaw.
Friends are welcome from 4-8 PM on Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 9, 2017. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Memorial Park Road, Waynesburg, PA.
