Retired Master/Sergeant Edward Holmes age 94, of Canonsburg, died August 18, 2011 at Consulate Health Care, Canonsburg.
He was born March 13, 1917 in Houston, the son of the late August and Lucy Herring Holmes.
After graduating high school, he enlisted to United States Army during World War II being discharged in 1946. Reenlisting in January of 1946 with the Air Force as an Aircraft Engineering Tech., serving during Korean War. Receiving American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and World War II Victory Ribbon. Discharged on April 2, 1951 and accepted an appointment as Warrant Officer JG AFUS. After retiring from Service, he retired as head of security for Rock Well International.
Mr. Holmes was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Canonsburg. Lived most of his life Canonsburg and in Ohio but liked to spend time in Canada, he also enjoyed fishing, farming, and traveling.
In 1958, he married Mary Winifered, who passed away in September of 1989.
Surviving are daughter, Sarah E. (Vern) Stubenbordt-Smith of McDonald; sister, Dorothy McCartney, formerly of Washington and niece, Donna Fletcher of Franklin, Pa.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc.; Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM with Pastor Geoff Rach, officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville
