Mary Jane Stabile, age 91 of Canonsburg, passed away Sunday April 13, 2014 in Country Meadows, Bridgeville.
She was born August 12, 1922 in Canonsburg, the daughter of John B. and Genevieve Rink Black.
Mrs. Stabile lived most of her life in Canonsburg and received her education in the Canonsburg schools. She was a contestant in the Miss Canonsburg Pageant, in the 1940's.
She was a devoted homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper and accounts manager at Tollgate Gulf Station, which her husband owned and operated for many years. Her grandmother, Hannah Work Black, was part of a group of ladies who founded Canonsburg Hospital, where she was the second of four generations to be born, including her father John Black, her children and her granddaughter.
Mrs. Stabile was a member of St. Patrick Church, Christian Mothers and Guild, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Canonsburg 1211, Daughters of the American Revolution, where she traced her family heritage to 1690 and the Jefferson College Historical Society.
On April 19, 1941 she married Paul F. Stabile, Sr. who passed away on October 14, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, Paul F. (Ila) Stabile, Jr. of Canonsburg; David J. Stabile of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Marilyn T. (Larry Smith) Stabile-Dymer of Lowry, Missouri; Cynthia L. (Dan) Stabile-Rasy of Watchung, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Holly Lynn Stabile and Paul F. (Laura) Stabile, III; two great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Jessica; brother, John B. "Jack" (Denise) Black of Ontario, Canada.
Deceased are three sisters, Dorothy O'Brien, Grace Heberling and Genevieve (Jean) Beck.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a blessing Service will be held at 10:30am Wednesday April 16, 2014 followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church at 11am. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Family suggest donations be made to St. Patrick Church in memory of Mrs. Stabile. The Christian Mothers and Guild of St Patrick will recite the Rosary at 3pm Tuesday in the Funeral Home.
