Mary Chopak Pavlek

July 15, 1922 — January 22, 2016

Mary Chopak Pavlek, 93, of Canonsburg passed away peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2016 in her home.

She was born on July 15, 1922 in Canonsburg, the daughter of the late John and Pearl Chopak.

Prior to her retirement, Mary worked at Tactec and RCA for 30 years.  She had also worked for Continental Can and Ford Motor Company.  She belonged to the RCA Retirement Group.

Mary was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Ladies Altar Society.

On May 20, 1945 she married Pete Pavlek.  After 46 years of marriage, he passed away on December 18, 1991.

Surviving are two beloved sons, Robert (Sheila) Pavlek of Sevierville, Tennessee and John Pavlek of Canonsburg; six grandchildren, Robert, Linda, Kate, Billie, Amber, and Jason; and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Thomas, Andrew “Ted”, Andrew Peter, and Peter George Chopak; and an uncle, Pete Chopak.

Friends are welcome from 2-8 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, with a Parastas service at 7:00 PM, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Thursday, January 28, 2016.  The funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 601 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg with the Very Reverend Joseph Oleynik as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
