Mary E. "Betty" (VanTassel) Patnesky

Mary E. “Betty” VanTassel Patnesky, 90, of Lawrence passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 in the Donnell House, Washington.

She was born on September 10, 1924 in Lawrence – Hills Station, a daughter of the late William and Julia Kamp VanTassel.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Lawrence prior to relocating to Canonsburg in 2005.  For the past year she had resided at Evergreen in Washington.  She was a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church in McMurray.  Prior to its closing, she was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Betty was a member of the Hills-Hendersonville Civic Association, the Senior Citizen Center in Canonsburg, and the Hilltoppers Group of Cecil.

She was a 1942 graduate of Cecil High School.  She also graduated from Duff’s Business School in Pittsburgh.  Betty had been employed by the Advertiser/Almanac for 25 years.

On November 24, 1949 she married Louis F. Patnesky, who passed away on December 8, 1983.

Surviving are her four beloved children, Judy (Mack) McPherson of Cecil, David J. (Lisa) Patnesky of Canonsburg, Betty Lou (Dave Boettcher) Patnesky of McMurray, and Mary (Joe Koontz) Winseck of Lawrence; a sister, Patricia (Richard) Barnes of Lawrence; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents is a brother, Bill VanTassel.

Friends are welcome from 2-8 PM on Thursday, April 30, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:15 AM on Friday, May 1, 2015.  A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Benedict the Abbot Church, 120 Abington Drive, McMurray.  Private interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Evergreen, 336 N. Main Street, Washington, PA 15301
