Mary Ann Koch Boyan
After an long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Mary Ann Koch Boyan age 78 of Canonsburg, passed away on Saturday morning, May 21, 2016 in Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Canonsburg.
She was born on January 3, 1938 in Canonsburg, to the late Edward C. and Elizabeth M. Moore Koch.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Canonsburg High School, Class of 1957, and Passavant Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1959. She worked at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, until her mother’s illness required her full attention.
On March 17, 1961 she married James E. Boyan, who passed away on May 10, 2009.
Mrs. Boyan was a homemaker and caregiver, who was committed to the well-being of her family, and especially to her son Dennis. She was a faithful, devoted and lifelong member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Canonsburg, and served God by working on numerous church boards and committees. Singing in the church choir and managing the kitchen were two of her favorite activities.
She was a member of several local social clubs, was an avid Bingo player, and volunteered her time and energy to the Association for Retarded Citizens-Washington County and Canonsburg Community Food Bank, amongst others. Mary Ann and her husband, along with their son Dennis, enjoyed going to polka dances and picnics. Playing the slots at the local casinos was another favorite activity.
Surviving is her beloved daughter, Cindy Boyan Spalla (Gerald) of Canonsburg; a sister Barbara J. Koch Cavicchia (Robert) of Worthington, Ohio; two grandchildren, Shanna C. Spalla and Zachary J. Spalla of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis J. Boyan and two brothers, Robert C. Koch and Donald H. Koch.
Friends are welcome from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. Friends and family will be received on Friday May 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 139 N. Jefferson Avenue, Canonsburg for a final farewell. Holy Eucharist will immediately follow at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
