Martha (Lesnik) Antol

March 21, 1926 — March 12, 2016

Martha Antol, 89, of Canonsburg passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born on March 21, 1926 in Canonsburg, the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Zaloker Lesnik.

Martha’s birth name was Martine Lesnika and she was fondly referred to as “Tina”.

In her twenties, Martha had worked as a butcher and cashier at the Alexander Co-Op Slovenian Grocery Store in Strabane and had also worked for Marlene’s Dress Shop in Canonsburg, where she modeled wedding gowns.

Martha was very proud of her Slovenian heritage.  She was an avid supporter of the American Slovene Hour radio program.  She was also a proud lifetime member of the SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane.  Martha loved polka dances.  Upon her husband’s retirement, they would travel to various polka festivals and would never miss a local dance.  In addition to polka, she loved Sunday football and would never miss the games.  Martha also enjoyed cooking and doing puzzles.

On April 26, 1952 she married Paul P. Antol, who passed away on April 15, 2013.

Surviving are two loving daughters, Nancy J. Antol-Sartori of East Granby, Connecticut and Marianne (Mark) Shanks of McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren, Jerry J. Sartori, III of Waldo, Florida, Gabrielle A. Sartori of Boston, Massachusetts, and Mark and James Shanks, both of McKinney, Texas; a sister-in-law, Bernadine Lesnik of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Lesnik and son-in-law, Jerry J. Sartori, Jr.

Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 18, 2016 with Rev. Cathy Peternel officiating.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Slovene Hour, Attn. Sharon Ujcich, 381 F Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15209.
