Mario D’Amico age 84 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully Thursday January 17, 2019 in his home. He was born January 30, 1934 in Canonsburg a son of the late Salvatore and Bridget Riccobene D’Amico. Mr. D’Amico lived in the Canonsburg, Muse area his entire life and was a graduate of Canonsburg High school class of 1953. He served with the United States Army in the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment as an Armor Crewman radio operator stationed in Germany. Prior to his retirement Mario was employed as a millwright and in the Lab at Washington Steel Corporation in Houston. He had formerly been employed at McGraw Edison Power Systems and Cooper Industries in Canonsburg. Mr. D’Amico was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Muse, and a member of the Muse Independent Club. He had been a Mason, was a member of the Italian-American Cultural and Heritage Society, the American Legion Post 902 in Houston and United Steels Workers of America. Mario was an eclectic man who enjoyed, among many other interests, winemaking, woodworking and fishing.

On November 7, 1959 he married Gloria D’Amico who survives after fifty-nine years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his two beloved daughters; Lisa (Harvey) Speer and Linda (John) Romano both of Canonsburg, two grandsons, Nicholas and Michael Speer, four step grandchildren; Danielle Liesch, Angela Jenkins, Carli Pitcock and Jamie Romano, a sister; Mary Olivito of Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are his son John D’Amico who died in infancy on the same day as his father, fifty years ago, January 17, 1969., two brothers Joseph J. D’Amico and Carlo E. D’Amico and two sisters, Helen Zolidis and Lucy Wayne.

Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Monday January 21, 2019 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor Darla Tripoli LFD 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 11:20 am Tuesday January 22, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Tuesday January 22, 2019 in Holy Rosary Church 245 Muse Bishop Road Muse. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military rites accorded by the VFW post 191 Honor Guard and the United States Army.
