Marie F. (Slavonic) Talpas

September 6, 1925 — November 26, 2009

Marie F. (Slavonic) Talpas age 84 of Canonsburg, died Thursday November 26, 2009, in her home surrounded by her family, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on September 6, 1925, in Lincoln Place, Pittsburgh, the daughter of Frank M. and Barbara Mitrovic Slobodnjak.
Mrs. Talpas had attended Taylor Alderdice High School.
She started her numerous work careers as a welder for Dravo Works in Pittsburgh during World War II, and was also a waitresses at various local restaurants. She then worked in retail sales and ended her career as a merchandiser for Gibson Greeting Card Company.
Mrs. Talpas was a member of St. Patrick Church and had been a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the North Strabane Township Volunteer Fire Department.
She enjoyed following the Pittsburgh Pirates on television and radio and was an avid quilter, who loved knitting, crocheting and bingo.
Mrs. Talpas was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
On November 9, 1946 she was united in marriage with Joseph W. Talpas, her husband of 63 years at the old St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church on Greenside Ave.
Surviving in addition to her husband are six children, Mary Jo (John) Marasco of Canonsburg, Diane (Ron) Taylor of St.Peters, MO., Kevin (Lynette) Talpas of Eighty-Four, David (Vicky) Talpas of Washington, Nancy (Jack) Passante of Centreville, VA., Carole Coon of Washington; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased are three sisters, Rose, Barbara, and Ann all of Pittsburgh, and seven brothers Charlie, Mike, Pete, George, Frank, Nick and Joe.
Friends are welcome on from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 Sunday November 29, 2009 in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held at 9:30am Monday November 30, 2009 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Patrick Church with the Reverend John Batykefer, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
Family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg, PA 15317 in Memory of Mrs.Talpas.
