Maria “Mary” Di Nardo, 99, a lifelong resident of Muse and Canonsburg, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 in Strabane Woods Assisted Living of Washington.
She was born on January 19, 1916 in Barisciano, Italy, a daughter of the late Domenick and Maddalena D’Allesandro Di Paolo. Mary came to the United States at the age of 14.
Mary is a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg where she is a member of the Christian Mothers and Guild. She was a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Muse.
She was proud of her Italian heritage and loved cooking for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
In July of 1932, at the age of 16, she married Rodolfo Di Nardo, who passed away on April 12, 1978.
Surviving are three beloved children, Rudolph (Paulette) Di Nardo of Canonsburg, Norman (Donna) Di Nardo of Houston, and David (Brenda) Di Nardo of Altamonte, Florida; eleven grandchildren, Dayna (Dave) Gillis of Michigan, James (Renee) Di Nardo of Scenery Hill, Darcie (Alan) Vezzi of McDonald, Nicole (Steven) Pardon of Virginia, Jason (Gina) Di Nardo of McMurray, Christopher Di Nardo of Canonsburg, Kara (Sean) Gray of North Carolina, Ashley (Adam) Barefoot of Georgia, Gregory Di Nardo of New York, John (Lisa) Rosta of Alabama, and Janene (Jeffrey) Yost of Canonsburg; twenty great grandchildren, Allison, Alec, Madelyn, Sydney, Reese, Emily, Justin, Jacob, Maxwell, Dante, Roman, Owen, Lucas, Austin, Abigail, Jack, Jessica, Sean, Eric, and Gina; two nieces, Linda Gasbarrini Behling and Andrea Gasbarrini Heller; and a daughter-in-law, Diana Horne.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Di Nardo, who passed away in August 2002 and two sisters, Anna Di Paolo Collapella, who was her twin, and Theresa Di Paolo Gasbarrini. Mary was the last of her immediate family.
Friends are welcome from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 and from 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday, May 7, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayer will begin at 9:30 AM Friday, May 8, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
The Christian Mothers and Guild will recite the Rosary at 2:00 on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317 or to Amedisys Hospice Care, 275 Meadowlands Blvd., Washington, PA 15301.
