Margaret J. Gayarski

Margaret J. "Peg" Gayarski age 93 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully Wednesday November 12, 2014 in her home following an extended illness. She was born June 16, 1921 in New Brighton a daughter of the late Vincent and Pauline Delhi Gayarski. Miss Gayarski lived her entire life in Canonsburg where she was a lifelong and active member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. A graduate of Canonsburg High School class of 1940 and was part of the old "Vine Street Gang" She had been employed at Kaufmann's Department Store for over 50 years.
Miss Gayarski is survived by two sisters; Anna (the late Lundo) Zanardelli of Allen Park MI. and Helen (Nick) Samila of Washington, nieces and nephews; William Gregor, Janice (John) Mumma, Michele Mistoffelees, Jacqueline (Jeffery) Elias, Gregory Gayarski, Robert (Laura) Zanardelli, David (Lisa) Zanardelli, Jeffrey, Paula and Nancy Franitti, Patricia (Frank) Steinle and David Samila, and great nephews; Jeffrey Sean, Vincent and Adam Elias and Gregory Gayarski Jr. Deceased are three sisters; Mary Gregor, Freida Gayarski and Cathy Franitti, two brothers; Michael and Louis Gayarski and a nephew Thomas Zanardelli. The Gayarski family extends a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and hospice staff for their compassionate care of Peg, and to Helen and Nick Samila for their faithful visits and love. Jeffrey and Paula Franitti lovingly cared for their aunt in the past few years so she could stay in her home.
Friends are welcome from 4-8pm Friday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 8:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9am in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
