LeRoy “Red” Strimel age 84 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully Friday, March 8, 2024, in his home. He was born October 3, 1939, in Cecil, a son of the late George and Gerturde Rudge Strimel. Red was a graduate of Cecil High School class of 1957 and proudly served with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He had been employed as a Psych Aid and in Security at the former Woodville State Hospital in Bridgeville until its closing in 1992. Red lived most of his life in Cecil and moved to Canonsburg in 2006. He was a member of the Bears Club in Meadowlands, the Muse Independent Club, VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 in Houston. Mr. Strimel could be a bit ornery at times and kept a very tight schedule for himself and his family. He loved animals, especially his dog Daisy and his late dog Molly. Most important times for him were spent with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. On September 13, 1985, he married Maria Janiec Lawlor who he leaves behind after 38 years of marriage. Also left to cherish his memory are his children; Keith (Candi) Strimel of Cecil, Eric Strimel of Houston, George Strimel of Canonsburg, Lisa Strimel of Washington, Renee (William) Kopach of Canonsburg and Nadine (Jeff) Duncan of Center Twp., his six beloved grandchildren; Madison, Marissa and Joshua Kopach, Daniel Duncan, Alyssa Strimel and Karla Armentrout and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents is his first wife Marilyn Martz who passed away March 26, 1983, and his two siblings, George Strimel and Eva Jancart. He was the last of his immediate family.
At Mr. Strimel’s request all services and interment will be private and have been entrusted into the care of SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P.
