He was a heart transplant recipient for 12 years


Leonard Barsody 81 of Canonsburg, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 9:45 AM in Canonsburg Hospital.
He was born January 17, 1928 in Canonsburg, a son of Antol and Julia Petro Barsody.
Mr. Barsody was a life long member of St. Patrick Church.
He worked at Cooper Industries formerly McGraw-Edison as a fitter for 45 years, retiring in 1991.
During World War II, Mr. Barsody served in the United States Navy as a radar operator on the U.S.S. Taconic.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and the American Legion Post 253 both of Canonsburg.
His hobbies were golfing, hunting; fishing, square dancing and he loved to travel.
On October 27, 1951 in St .Patrick Church, he married Anne Morena, who survives.
Also surviving one son, Leonard Barsody, Jr.; Youngsville; daughter, Marie Barsody of Canonsburg; four grandchildren, Brian Cox, Leonard, Matthew and Carol Barsody; two brothers, Joseph and James Barsody both of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are seven brothers, Anthony, John, Frank, Steve, Elmer, Albert and Thomas Barsody; three sisters, Margaret Cheverine, Irene Harvey and Julia Gregus.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday, February 2, 2009 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military rites will be accorded by the combined honor guard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
