Leon A. Strimel

Leon A. Strimel age 72 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully, Thursday May 30, 2024, in Allegheny General Hospital Pittsburgh. He was born January 22, 1952, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Leon F. and Virginia Halley Strimel. Leon was a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School class of 1970 and earned an education degree in earth sciences and a master’s degree in counseling, both from California University. Prior to his retirement Mr. Strimel had been employed as a guidance counselor at West Allegheny High School. He then went on to Crisis Center North as a prevention educator. Leon coached baseball in his youth for his sons and loved being with his children and grandchildren, which was most important to him.  On December 27, 1975, he married Denise M. Derrico, who he leaves behind after 48 years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children, Christa (Bryan) Schutt of McMurray, Brad (Anna) Strimel of Canonsburg and Grant (Tara) Strimel of Presto, his dear grandchildren, Frederick, Eliza, Greta and Vivien Schutt, Leon R .and Patton Strimel and Aurelia Strimel and his sister Eva (Don) Graziano of Daytona Beach, Fla.

Friends and family are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Tuesday June 4, 2024, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724) 745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 9:35 am Wednesday June 5, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Oscar Romero Parish at St. Patrick Church Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg.
