L. Jane Doran age 79 of Washington, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Monday September 6, 2010 in Canonsburg General Hospital.
She was born December 21, 1930 in Pittsburgh the daughter of the late John William Doran and Grace Elizabeth Meeghan Doran Dowling.
She was a former nun with the Order of Apostle of the Sacred Heart, known at that time as Sister Jean Marie. During and after her retiring from the convent, she remained an Elementary school teacher at Resurrection Catholic School in Brookline.
Miss Doran was a member of the Red Hat Society and several Book Clubs.
She was an avid reader, who especially enjoyed poetry. She loved scratch off lottery tickets, listening to music of all kinds and drawing wild birds. She was fondly known at Strabane Trails as the Bird Lady. .
Miss Doran was always extremely generous and good hearted and befriended every one she met.
Surviving are brother, William (Anne) Doran of Eighty- Four; sister, Sarah (Robert) Cunningham of Prescott, AZ.; many nieces and nephews, who she considered like her children, Debbie, Bob, Tom and Michael Cunningham, Greg and John Doran, William Doran, Christine Hixon, Rob Doran, Melissa McIntyre and Elizabeth Doran; and many great-nieces and nephews, also two very special friends Rickie Oldani and Marie Smith.
Deceased in addition to her parents is a brother, John Doran.
Friends will be welcomed on Thursday September 9, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where also on Friday September 10, 2010at 9:30 AM Blessing Service will be held. Mass of Christian will follow at 10:00 am in St. Patrick Church. Interment will be Private and held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
