Kenneth Joseph “K-Matt” Mavrich died on April 20, 2025, in Canonsburg Hospital. He was born April 29, 1937, the son of Joseph and Emma Hernberger Mavrich. He was a 1955 Canonsburg High School graduate and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956. He was a machinist mate and was stationed on the Aircraft Carrier Tarawa in Cuban waters. He also participated in NATO exercises in European waters in 1957. During one visit home from the Navy when he wasn’t quite 21, his dad, Joe, told him to keep his uniform on because he was taking him to the bar. No questions were asked. For several years, he took regular fishing trips to Canada with several friends. Kenny was a member of the KSKJ and a life-long member of SNPJ Lodge 138, where he was active on the Sunday bowling league and served on the House Committee for many years, some as president. He also played Balina at the SNPJ for a number of years. Most recently, he could be found almost daily at the corner of the bar, drinking his two daily beers. He was a staple at Friday’s Bar Bingo and won a few times. He also enjoyed going to the SNPJ Recreation Center in Enon Valley for many years and was known to pick up a bass that was nearly as big as he was and play it with a cigar hanging out of his mouth and a beer not far away. Kenny worked at the Pennsylvania Transformer and McGraw Edison Power Systems and electrical finisher in Canonsburg until his retirement in 1994. He is surely happy to be reunited in heaven with his two children, Mark and Deborah, who died in 1977, in the Johnstown Flood. Also deceased are a brother, Joseph “Chief” Mavrich and sister, Beverly Hartman. Kenny was the last of his immediate family.
