Kay Boone of Canonsburg, passed away on December 24, 2014 at the age of 92.

She was born March 7, 1922 in Lumberport, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Enrico and Latricia "Riccelli" Richards. She was a first-generation American of Italian descent.

Kay graduated from Canonsburg High School in 1943. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Canonsburg.

Kay will be remembered and loved for her dedication to her family. Of special note is her friendship of 50 years with neighbor Rose Marie Vidmar. Kay enjoyed making thousands of pizzelle cookies for family parties and weddings. Even into her 80s, her zest for creating a comfortable home and helping her family would tire people half her age. You could always count on Kay.

She married her beloved Leon Popiolkowski on November 2, 1946, and together they built their own home and had enjoyed 13 years together when he died after a brief illness in 1959. She was married to Nelson L. Boone from February 17, 1962 until his death in 1989.

Kay worked for more than 27 years in the insurance business and was employed by Henderson Brothers Insurance in Pittsburgh at the time of her retirement in 2001.

Surviving are a son, Leon Popiolkowski, Jr. and wife Georgia; grandson, Mark Popiolkowski; and great-grandson, Ellis Popiolkowski, all of Canonsburg and two nieces, six nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by brothers William, Frank, Louis, Thomas and Lincoln Richards, and sisters Rose Smith, Mary Katocs and Grace Plovic and three nieces and two nephews.

Friends are welcome from 2-8 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 W. Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, December 31, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish, Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
