Julia Sopiak age 97 of Canonsburg died Monday, November 15, 2010 in her home.
She was born on December 8, 1912 in Canonsburg, the daughter of Michael and Fannie Nagy Sedlitsky.
In her earlier years, Mrs. Sopiak worked during World War II for Dravo Corporation , Continental Can in Canonsburg, Mine Safety Appliance, Leihograh Company and in her later years was a devote homemaker.
She was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church where she loved to make nut rolls and pierogies, worked all church dinners, also cleaned and decorated for the church, also belonged to Young Women's Club and helped the sisters of St. Basil at Mount St. Macrina's in Uniontown.
Mrs. Sopiak loved crocheting, tatting, sewing, cooking and making pastries.
She had a great love for her family and church.
On July 13, 1929 she married John Sopiak, who died in November of 1976.
Surviving are son, John (Betty) Sopiak of Canonsburg; two daughters, Anna Louise (Eugene) Clendaniel of Chesterton, Indiana; Patricia M. (William) Delfine of Canonsburg; 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, brother, John Sedlitsky of Vero Beach, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are daughter, Mary Jane Guidas, four sisters, Mary Kotyk, Ann Ofiara, Helen Koch, Margaret Clark and three brothers, Julius, Michael and Frank Sedlitsky.
Friends are welcome on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 west Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 9:00 am. Divine Liturgy Service will follow in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church at 9:30 am, with Father Joseph Jugan as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Canonsburg. A Panachida Service will be held Thursday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home
