Julia M. Cushma age 83 of Strabane died unexpectedly, Friday November 13, 2009 in Allegheny General Hospital Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
She was born May 1, 1926 in Canonsburg a daughter of the late John and Julie Meszaros Kish. She lived most of her life in Strabane and was a member of St. Patrick Church and it's Christian Mothers and Guild. A Homemaker, Mrs. Cushma had been employed in her early years at General Electric in Cleveland and the former Blue Star Potato Chip Factory. She enjoyed bingo, her grandchildren, cooking and television westerns, and had been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Canonsburg 1211.
On July 2, 1955 she married John C. (Shadow) Cushma who died April 29, 1997. Surviving are two sons, John J. (Nancy) Cushma of McMurray and Michael D. (Janet) Cushma of Houston, a daughter Patricia M. (Leverne) Neilson of Canonsburg, two sisters Elizabeth (William) Zubenko of Strabane and Mary (Ray) Howard of Orlando Florida, six grandchildren John Robert Cushma, Kailem Daniel and Nakoma J. Neilson, Katie Cushma, Sakima J. Neilson and Michael Daniel Cushma and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister Clara Arrowsmith.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Saturday and Sunday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 am Monday November 16, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 am in St. Patrick Church with Reverend John Batykfer, Pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.
