Josephine E. Sedmak age 89 of McMurray, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday June 24, 2014. She was born September 18, 1924 in Strabane, the daughter of the late Lawrence Yonack and Rose Progar Yonack Peternel.
Mrs. Sedmak lived in McMurray since 1951, where she was a long time parishioner of St. Benedict the Abbott Church. She worked for over 30 years for Kaufman's Department store as a sales associate. During World War II she worked in a defense plant in McKeesport. Mrs. Sedmak was member of SNPJ Lodge 138 and also KSKJ lodge 153 both of Strabane.
She was a devoted wife and mother and was known by all who knew her as a loving, kind and supportive woman.
On November 2, 1942 during war time in Salisbury, Maryland, she married her beloved husband of 56 years Andrew A. Sedmak who passed away on January 29, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, JoLynne C. Sedmak of McMurray and Nancy (Marc) Sedmak-Weiss of Rehoboth, DE and Porto Alegre, Brazil; son, David A. (Pamela) Sedmak of Fountain Hills, AZ; brother, Vincent "Butch" (Joan) Peternel of Mass.; and a very special niece Roseann Frazier and many other nieces and nephews.
Deceased also are her step-father, Vincent Peternel, two sisters, Kathryn Verchek and Dorothy Carick.
Friends are welcome on Sunday and Monday July 6 and 7, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be at 9:20 AM Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM in St. Benedict the Abbott Church McMurray. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery McMurray, Pa.
