Joseph W. “Bill” Mainier age 92 of Cecil formerly of Penn Hills passed away peacefully at 1:05 PM on Sunday August 21, 2016 in McMurray Hills Manor, McMurray with his loving family by his side. He was born April 19, 1924 in Pittsburgh a son of the late Vincent and Mary Greco Mainier. Mr. Mainier served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II, as a chief on aircraft carrier USS Tripoli, and was a member of St Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church. He wintered in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, enjoyed golfing and loved Steeler football and Pirate Baseball.
Mr. Mainier owned the Canary Inn in East Liberty for many years prior to his retirement then became an usher at Three Rivers Stadium then in section #28 of PNC Park.
On June 9, 1947 he married Helen Cafardi who passed away June 18, 1997.
He is survived by his son Vincent Mainier and his wife Joni of Verona, daughter Carol A. DeSimone and her husband Michael of Cecil and son William Mainier and his wife Kathy of North Hills, a brother Thomas Mainier and his wife Mary Ellen of North Huntington, and seven grandchildren; Michelle (Tom) Kochan, William (Stephanie Kane) Mainier, Stephanie (James) Corbin, Danielle (Fiancé Joey Laboda) DeSimone, Susan (Dennis) Sroka and Michael (Emily) Mainier and Laura Beth Mainier (Fiancé Jerry LaPierrre), 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are his sister Rosemary “Toots” Bucci and his two brothers; Robert and Jack Mainier.
Friends are welcome from 2-9 PM Friday, August 26, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral Director 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where the VFW Post 191 will render full military honors at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 27, 2016, with departing prayers being recited at 10:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Muse with Father George DeVille as celebrant. Private entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Mainier’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
