Joseph "Little Joe" Trovato

Joseph "Little Joe" Trovato age 79 of Canonsburg passed away on Friday November 16, 2012 in Allegheny General Hospital with his loving family by his side after and extended illness. He was born March 23, 1933 in Curinga, Provezia di Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy a son of the late Giovanni and Caterina Monteleone Trovato. Mr. Trovato lived in Canonsburg since 1955 and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. He was the proprietor of Little Joe's Market on Jefferson Avenue for over 50 years. In addition, along with his wife and sons he ran the popular Trovato's Italiano Ristorante for 25 years. He was very active in Italian heritage organizations and was known for his delicious spaghetti Aglio e Olio at the annual Cara Amici picnic at Meadowlands Farm. Mr. Trovato enjoyed cooking with his family including, his mother in law, making wine, curing olives, playing cards and gardening. He had been an avid bowler. His Doctor and longtime friend Robert Lesnok MD said of him "Canonsburg has lost one of her great son's, who gave generously to the community." He leaves behind, in addition to numerous friends, his two faithful pets Angel and Wrinkles.
On June 1, 1963 he married Anna Marie Bazan who survives. Also surviving are two sons', Joseph Trovato of McMurray and John (Melissa) Trovato of Canonsburg and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Trovato was the last of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Nicolo, Antonio and Sebastian Trovato and a sister Vittoria Tilliegi.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Wednesday and Friday (NO VISITATION ON THANKSGIVING) in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 9 am Saturday November 24, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am in St Patrick Church followed by interment in St. Patrick Cemetery.
