Joseph T. Progar, 87, of Strabane died Friday, February 20, 2009 in his home.

He was born September 28, 1921 in Strabane the son of Joseph and Rozalia Bobnar Progar.

Mr. Progar was a member of St. Patrick Church. He was also a member of SNPJ Lodge 138 and St. Jerome Lodge 153 KSKJ and the VFW Post 553 all of Strabane.

During World War II, Mr. Progar served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific.

Before his retirement he was a welder at McGraw Edison Transformer Plant.

He was a life long resident of Strabane.

Surviving are his wife, Amelia Progar, two sons Joseph (Claire) Progar of Mt. Lebanon, and James (Monica) Progar of Perryopolis, a daughter Carole (Mario) Fatigati of McMurray; a brother William (Veronica) Progar of Houston, a sister Rose Marie (Robert) Lawrence of Strabane; seven grandchildren, Matt and Ted Progar, Jaymes and Anna Progar, Amelia, Nina, and Cara Fatigati, and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Edward and Anthony Progar and a grandson Charles Progar.

Friends are welcome in the Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg on Sunday from 2-8 PM. A blessing service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

Full military rites will be accorded by the Honor Guards of VFW 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
