Joseph E. Malenka age 83, of Canonsburg, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 8:40 AM in the Donnell House, Washington.
He was born in Gladden, Pa. on February 24, 1926, the son of the late Martin and Mary Budzik Malenka.
During World War II he served in the Army Air Corp. in Europe.
Before his retirement in 1988, he worked at the former McGraw-Edison and Cooper Industries as a finisher for 25 years, and also worked for the former RCA, all in Canonsburg.
Mr. Malenka was a member of St. Patrick Church, Polish National Alliance and the White Eagles, all of Canonsburg.
He enjoyed vegetable gardening and was a trivia enthusiast.
On March 16, 1951, he married Dorothy A. Witko, who died on March 21, 1983.
Surviving are son, Edward J. (Beverly) Malenka of Houston; daughter, Denise (Peter) Garvey of Canonsburg; two grandsons, Patrick Emrock and Jon (Stacey) Emrock; one great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Emrock; two sisters, Mary Ann Bednar of Homestead Falls, Ohio and Dorothy Kempke of Euclid, Ohio; and one brother, Andrew Malenka of Stanton Island, New York.
Deceased are five brothers, Steve, Frank, Wilbert, Thomas and John Malenka.
Friends are welcome on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, where a Blessing Service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:00 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Canonsburg.
Full military rites will be accorded by the combined honor guard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
In lieu of flowers family suggest donations be made to the Donnell House 10 Leet Street, Washington, Pa. 15301, in memory of Mr. Malenka.
